Shallow drifting on purple dreams, sliding into darker shadows. My hair spread about me like a crown floating on the water. Your eyes glittering in the moonlight. My hand caresses, you nuzzle my shimmering wings. Warmth, loving, caring; the sweetness tinges our midnight breeze.
Your gaze steady, hand gently pressing upon my throat. Wavering visions of you, tears falling in silence. A final sigh. My hair spread about me like a crown. Your eyes now glistening in the moonlight.
Shallow drifting on purple dreams, sliding into darker shadows.

You didn’t offend in the least. It is eerily fatal, her lover drowns her and sends her off to drift on purple dreams forever… Thank you for the compliment and kind words! Many hugs!

Ah…relieved! I have a habit of indirect writing at times…and worry I’m only one who will see my motive or vision. I prefer this style…as readers, we are allowed to draw upon our own experience and recollection…think this is why I value your words and graceful style…but when commenting…nagging doubt enters (did I get her intent?) Happy found your meaning! Much love! Bxxx

Yes, you found the meaning… her soul given peacefully in death to the one thing she cherishes more than it – her love 😉

About time you posted!
As I’m sure I’ve said before, your words simply flow, like prose poetry, the visuals so precise

Thank you, Sue! I don’t post here as often as I’d like… I’m usually busy reading or writing for publication. 😉

Hi Sue, you can catch a good deal of my stuff on Pen of the Damned, in our bi-monthly eZine The Sirens Call, and the occasional anthology. Unfortunately, being a publisher as well as a writer doesn’t leave me much time to write when I’m not involved in a specific hop. But I post on PenoftheDamned.com every 9 or 10 weeks (the next will be July 2nd), and we’ve been doing restricted word count flash pieces about mid-way through my rotation over there. 😉

Fantastic Nina!
I hope this doesn’t sound strange, but it reminds me (albeit in a more more beautiful tone) of the ending in Of Mice and Men. It was a powerful moment when George shot Lennie. The release of a person he cared a great deal for, knowing that it was only through that release that Lennie would find happiness. George was devastated.
I feel something similar with your story, yet stronger due to the romantic ties. Her final moments seemed to be filled with hope and longing for the release that was soon to come, while his loving and selfless act was marked with anguish – tears falling in silence.
Wonderful

Hi Zack,
Thank you for reading my brain wanderings and appreciating them! I can honestly say I’ve never read Of Mice and Men – wasn’t required reading, and for me it held no draw… Maybe I’m wrong on that.
You are spot on with your interpretation of my little muse. Thank you again! 🙂

So beautiful, Nina! Your writing always invokes a dreaminess within me; it is very easy to be swept away. Your prose constantly undulates with pain, sorrow and a muted glittering of elegance. Don’t know how you do it, but you do! 🙂 Please continue to do so always! Such a lovely piece!!

Thank you, Leslie! Anything even remotely poetic that comes from me is always free form… and mildly morbid (even the romantic pieces, such as this one) 🙂

Thank you, Chatty Owl!! I happen to like this one in particular. It began as a good night comment to my lover, and though it isn’t overly complicated, it evolved beautifully into the tragic prose I seem most drawn to. 🙂
